We Were @EASTERN Mediterranean University to Talk on Smart Cities-Smart Tourism for the Career Days Event on Digital Transformation in Tourism

Upon the kind invitation of the Eastern Mediterranean University Faculty of Tourism (EMU), we delivered a speech about “Smart Cities-Smart Tourism at the Digital Transformation in Tourism” panel of “Career Days” event on 8th of May, 2019. In the event, word wide trending topics like 4th industrial revolution, digitalization in tourism industry, smart tourism in smart cities, the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in tourism and online sales & marketing in tourism were discussed in detail.

In the event in which every aspect of the digital environment in tourism has been discussed, Koray Kucukyilmaz, general manager of tatilsepeti.com, Riza Kaynak, Business Partners Success Director of hotelrunner.com Rıza Kaynak, Berrin Benli, Co-Founder of Novusens Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kerim Cakmak, Engineering Solutions Consultant at IBM WATSON IoT (Internet of Things) participated as keynote speakers.

Academic staff members, students, industry professionals, government and NGO representatives aprticipated to the the panel where the opening speech was delivered by EMU Tourism Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Hasan Kilic. During his speech, he emphasized that the panel will contribute to the development of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in terms of tourism and culture. Prof. Dr. Kilic indicated that they are very happy about the participation of professionals, industry professionals and representatives of the tourism sector in the panel during which the views of TRNC Tourism and Environment Ministry Undersecretary Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismet Esenyel and Cyprus Turkish Travel Agencies Association President Erkan Kilim were also relayed. Prof. Dr. Kilic concluded by stating that the panel has reached its goal of raising awareness amongst students as well as the stakeholders of the country.

After the presentations of the speakers, the current needs and future of the tourism sector were discussed with the participants interactively. The event ended with a city tour hosted by the Faculty of Tourism.
