PARTNERSHIP for FUTURE of SMART CITIES BETWEEN CANAKKALE and TARRAGONA (SPAIN) PROJECT WAS CLOSED on 9th of JANUARY 2020 in CANAKKALE!
The closing event of Partnership for Future of Smart Cities Project was held on 9th of January 2020 at Parion Hotel in Canakkale with the signature of the Memorandum of Understanding between Canakkale and Tarragona authorities. All the local stakeholders of Canakkale and related stakeholders from Istanbul and Ankara attended to the meeting.
The project aimed to improve the collaboration between the Municipality of Çanakkale and the Municipality of Tarragona, to implement the Smart City Platform by referencing to the Tarragona case, and to develop long-term cooperation and design joint projects in order to carry forward the advanced smart city transformation of both cities. The project was awarded to the Municipality of Canakkale by the grant of "Town Twinning Action between Turkey and EU Grant Scheme (TTGS)” .
The meeting was started with keynote speeches by Ferdi ERDOGAN, Board Member of Kale Group, Cemal BAS, Head Of Finance & Project Department- Union of Municipalities of Turkey, Dursun Yıldırım BAYAR, Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation, Head of Department of Smart Cities and Geographical Technologies, the Deputy Mayor of Tarragona Mr. Jordi FORTUNY GUINART, Deputy Mayor of Tarragona and Director of Fundació Tarragona Smart Mediterranean City, Mr. Christian Berger EU Delegation Ambassador and Mr. Ulgur Gokhan, Mayor of Canakkale.
The meeting continued with the presentations and panels with valuable speakers on various topics including Sustainability of the Smart Applications; The Evaluation of ‘Partnership for Future of Smart Cities’ Project; Local Authorities and Smart Cities; and Local Authorities and International Relations.
The event is closed with the annoucement of the Memorandum of Understanding signature between the two Municipalities agreed working together in the future.
We’re having the great pleasure of proposing the City of Tarragona of Spain to Canakkale and developing the related links within the scope of “Partnership for Future of Smart Cities“ when we were running the 2nd phase of “Canakkale on My Mind” project that aims to contibute to the transformation of Canakkale to a liveable and sustainable city and increase the competitiveness level locally and internationally.
